Below are common Dashboard Warning Lights on your Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Mini Cooper.
Some symbols will vary slightly, but in general they should all look quite similar.
The dashboard warning lights are how your car communicates with you when something is wrong. The light will display every time you start your vehicle. This is when you call A & R German Motors!
Check engine light (CEL) (also known as the Service Engine Soon warning lamp).
This symbol indicates a malfunction within the engine system, and needs to be diagnosed and fixed quickly to prevent any damage to your engine. The issues can range from minor, such as a loose gas cap, to severe, like a malfunctioning catalytic converter or Oxygen Sensor.
Engine Oil Pressure warning light
This old-fashioned oil can symbol indicates that there is an issue with your car’s oil pressure system. Call us anytime. We will check the oil levels and top off as required, also take a quick look for any obvious oil leaks under the car.
Coolant Temperature warning light
RED means that the engine is Too HOT, Do Not Drive! Yellow means, you may just need to top off of coolant. We would advise calling A & R German Motors immediately no matter which light is on, we can top off your coolant as required and advise if there may be a leak.
Brake Pads warning light
Means a sensor has detected your brake pads are too thin, and that they need to be replaced very soon. When brake pads are worn beyond their recommended lifespan, they can damage the brake rotors in a short time.
ABS (anti-lock braking system) warning light
This light indicates a problem with the anti-lock braking system, which prevents the wheels from locking up during emergency braking. Note: your regular brakes may still work.
It is technically safe to drive a car with the ABS light on. However, it is not recommended, you may lose control during hard braking situations. You should drive cautiously and get the issue diagnosed by a mechanic as soon as possible.
ESP (Electronic Stability Program) warning light
This is a safety feature designed to prevent loss of control during sharp turns, slippery conditions (rain and snow), or sudden maneuvers. Yes, you can still drive the car, but you should have it repaired soon.
